The key to creating a successful festival website is to maintain consistency throughout the whole design what I mean by that is an website as such most of the time has quite a lot of sub section meaning there’s a lot to cover an when you start to change colours layout, composition for each section the website becomes mediocre making it less profession but also significantly decreases users satisfaction as they become overwhelmed by the design.
Some key principles I want to use moving forward in designing a website for the CLOUT festival:
- Hierarchy – making sure that the design has visual cues to guid the users to different elements within the interface.
- Font sizes and weight of the elements used in the interface.
- Contrast and colour choices to guide the users.
- A very important element is spacing as the arrangement of space between elements to enhance the visual look and illustrate the relationships among various user interface components.
- Progressive disclosure – UX in websites often requires progressive disclosure to navigate users through a multi-step procedure making an appropriate level of information to result in good decision-making of the user while on the website.
- Consistency – As I mentioned at the start consistency is key for example when a button maintains a consistent appearance and functionality across your website users are less likely to focus on the interface and can concentrate on actually being the tickets.
- Accessibility – Making the whole website more accessible through visual manipulations
- Alternative text.
- Using sufficient contrast between foreground and background colours.
- Alignment – An effective grid system can organise and improve the aesthetics of the whole website or an app. Maintaining consistent alignment creates predictability, therefore, making easier user navigation on the website or app
A well-designed UI can significantly ‘Reduce cognitive load‘ making the whole experience for any user more enjoyable as they need to do fewer things allowing them to fully focus on the ‘task’ of the website like buying the tickets, finding out the line up etc.
