Task 3: Animated Social Media Assets

Similarly like in to the previous animation I started off in Photoshop creating the basic ad and framework. I followed similar steps to Task 2 as maintaining brand consistency throughout the whole project was a priority. I used the same distressed wall texture overlaid onto a black background to achieve that raw underground aesthetic that sets the tone of voice for the brand. Before incorporating more elements I went on Unsplash and sourced an image I could use to enrich the composition. Once I was happy with the main elements in place I identified where a CTA button could sit deciding to position it at the bottom of the frame leaving room at the top. I then shaped the ad into a product listing format showcasing our stock in the form of CD and album covers from the mockups I created during the brand guidelines process and added supporting text at the top to close the design together.

Once imported into After Effects the key difference with this animation was that I made an effort to organise my layers from the very start. This made a significant difference allowing me to focus entirely on the animation rather than wasting time rearranging the composition. I used scaling combined with easy ease graphs to make the text pop out smoothly and applied various distort effects to the artist alongside position keyframes to bring him in from outside the frame. A Gaussian blur and subtle wiggle expression were added on top to bring him to life within the composition.

For the CTA I added a rough drop shadow effect with a similar pop animation to make the button feel more clickable and visually appealing. I also played with different offsets and onsets on the text, using a typewriter effect to bring the outline to life . The phrase “Get Yours Now” was used to create contrast drawing the viewer’s attention directly to the CTA. Finally for the CDs I animated them moving from the centre to the left with careful pacing and a heavy Gaussian blur applied giving the impression they are physically flying across the frame rather than simply transitioning. Overall I am very happy with how this animation turned out.
